Bioactivity: Beta-Amyloid (1-40)(Human) is the predominant proteolytic product of amyloid precursor protein (APP) processing and constitutes approximately 90% of secreted Aβ species. It is a primary component of senile plaques and cerebral amyloid angiopathy in Alzheimer’s disease pathology. Aβ(1-40) forms cation-selective ion channels in lipid bilayers and exhibits concentration-dependent neurotrophic and neurotoxic effects in neuronal cultures. The peptide serves as a validated reference standard for sandwich-type enzyme immunoassays quantifying amyloid-A4 protein in cerebrospinal fluid. Structural studies demonstrate transition from random coil to α-helical conformation in water-micelle environments, with a C-terminal membrane insertion domain facilitating interaction with lipid bilayers.
