| Bioactivity: |
Beta-Amyloid 1-42 (Aβ1-42) is the most hydrophobic and aggregation-prone isoform of the amyloid-beta peptide, consisting of 42 amino acids generated by sequential cleavage of the amyloid-beta precursor protein (APP) by beta- and gamma-secretases. Aβ1-42 is widely recognized as the primary component of amyloid plaques found in the brains of Alzheimer's disease patients and exhibits significantly greater neurotoxicity and aggregation propensity compared to the shorter Aβ1-40 isoform. The HFIP-treated form is specifically processed to solubilize aggregated species, making it suitable for controlled oligomerization studies, fibrillization kinetics experiments, cell-based neurotoxicity assays, and structural characterization by biophysical methods including NMR, CD spectroscopy, and atomic force microscopy (AFM). This peptide is an essential reagent for investigating the molecular mechanisms of amyloidogenesis, screening potential therapeutic compounds targeting amyloid aggregation, and developing immunotherapeutic strategies for Alzheimer's disease and related amyloidoses. |
