| Bioactivity: |
β-Amyloid (25-35) is a neurotoxic fragment of the amyloid-beta peptide strongly implicated in Alzheimer’s disease pathogenesis. In vitro, Aβ(25-35) induces apoptotic effects on isolated brain mitochondria, generates reactive oxygen species (ROS), and triggers neuronal cell death pathways. The peptide promotes amyloid fibril formation and has been extensively used to establish both cellular and animal models of Alzheimer’s disease. Intracerebroventricular injection of Aβ(25-35) in rodents produces robust spatial learning and memory impairments, making it a gold-standard reagent for evaluating cognitive dysfunction and screening potential therapeutics. The oxidation state of Met35 is critical for its toxic activity — methionine oxidation at this position significantly modulates fibrillogenesis and cellular toxicity. This fragment serves as an indispensable tool in studies of amyloid-induced neurodegeneration, metal-peptide interactions, copper/zinc-mediated oxidative damage, and antioxidant therapy screening. |
